Do you remember standing in front of a mirror, in the dark, and chanting “Mary Worth. Mary Worth. Mary Worth” repeatedly hoping that Bloody Mary would show her face to you and your friends?
Well, I do and my first Friday the Thirteenth story, Thirteen
Reflections, is inspired by it. But before we go any further, let’s get a bit
of history about the legend, and folklore, behind the mirror.
Seems there are several possible historical figures behind
the myth of Bloody Mary, or Mary Worth to some. One of them is Queen Mary 1
of England. You see the Queen was ruthless and burned to death 280 Protestants
alive during her reign. She also ordered several heads to be rolled off the
executioner’s block. Had the Queen inherited her father’s thirst for blood?
